So I loaded SimplyMEPIS on the Linux partition on my laptop. I love these live CD's. In less then 30 minutes I had a fully functional install up and running. The only real problem that I ran into was the wireless card that I had for the laptop did not pick up. I did the usual thing and hit Google and after a few pages found out that linksys changed the chipset in the WPC11 and now was not supported. I later found that Realtec (the new chipset manufacturer) provided drivers for Red Hat. I downloaded the source and compiled but it would not work. I thought great so now I won't be able to surf the Internet at home while using MEPIS, but then I stumbled upon a driver on SourceForge. The driver can be located here. This is great after downloading I compiled the source and installed. I connected to my access point without any problems. I am providing this information in hopes that it will be indexed and will help someone else that is having a similar problem.
